project: repair & improvement works
client: partick homes ltd
cost: £2 million
location: fortrose house, fortrose street, glasgow
architect: gary pinkerton
completion date: nov 2012
awards: retro expo 2013 'domestic retrofit project of the year'

The project involved substantial renovation and improvement works to a 1960’s 9 storey housing block in the Partick area of Glasgow. The building consists of 48 maisonette and 5 single bedroom flats. An important aspect of the brief was to improve the thermal performance of the building. In order to achieve this, new efficient central heating systems were installed within the properties, along with replacement windows and innovative enclosed balconies. Central to the project however, was the full re-cladding of the building in high specification insulated render and zinc panels. The collective result of the works has enabled the tenants to enjoy a thermally efficient, comfortable home, whilst in tandem improving the aesthetical impact of the building on the surrounding environment.
