Maryhill Primary School

Conversion of 'C' listed former Maryhill Primary School with associated new build development adjacent to form 28 dwellings

Located on the highest street in Glasgow, the conversion of the former Maryhill Primary School and its adjacent playgrounds on Viewmount Drive represents an exciting mix of the old and new.

Extensive early discussions with planning, heritage and local residents, have resulted in a scheme which sensitively restores and adapts the existing C listed school building whilst meeting all the requirements of modern flatted housing. The two newbuild ‘wings’ of terraced housing & flats either side of the original school building, have been designed to provide a modern counterbalance to the new streetscape, whilst still honouring the key design features of the old school

Central to the Viewmount Drive development in Maryhill, is the conversion of the former primary school building. Due to various planning and listed building requirements, a highly innovative approach was required to arrive at a solution that successfully rejuvenated the old school into 9 modern, desirable and highly bespoke flats, without compromising the original buildings character. Two internal courtyards have been introduced to ensure a high level of natural daylight and amenity space, while mezzanine levels have been introduced wherever possible to maximise floorspace, whilst still honouring the original storey makeup.
